Senior Smiles Service

The Senior Smiles Service is a free service provided to senior citizens that we hope brings them many smiles! Each week something(s) to bring smiles is contributed, whether this consists of hand-colored birthday cards, coupons, hand-painted/hand-assembled gifts or decorations, or shopping items. All children and adults can be offered the opportunity to volunteer in some or many ways. This is a wonderful way for everyone to feel joy!

Especially these days when schools and day programs are closed or there isn’t anything suitable or available for many individuals over 22 years old or for many youngsters who would otherwise qualify for special ed, this is an excellent way for them to be involved in their community, while providing cheer to senior citizens who may no longer be able to receive visitors or go out or socialize as before. Much of the volunteerism can be done from home if necessary, with deliveries fitting into parameters most comfortable for both the residence of the senior citizen(s) and the volunteer.

And here is another exciting way to share happiness: if an individual’s homeschool or day program includes a gardening component, they can help grow flowers and plants for the senior citizens, who can see pictures of how their flower or plant is developing and eventually receive their flower or plant! A small windowsill planter can also be prepared for them if a senior citizen would enjoy growing their own plant.
